Frequently Asked Questions
1. Tell me about Dynamic EnergyTech (DESB)
Our group of companies have extensive experiences in implementing Large Solar Scale Project (LLS) and Net Energy Metering (NEM) in green technology sectors covering Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE).
DESB together with its trusted partners and team combined cutting-edge technologies and skills with deep industry knowledge to meet client’s initiatives.
We offer solid solar system, management services and consultancy to government or private sectors for residential and industry buildings. Our collective experiences span over a combined outstanding trusted solutions and technology partners that recognize the needs to offer the best products, services and solution ranging.
2. How does this scheme works?
On your roof, we instal a solar PV system. The solar energy provided by your house will be used to power all of your electrical appliances. When the sun is shining, you can buy less from TNB. If there is a surplus or balance of electricity, it will flow to the TNB grid automatically. And if you bundle your installation with NEM, you’ll get credit for any electricity you don’t use, lowering your bill even further.
If there is a surplus or balance of electricity, it will flow to the TNB grid automatically. And if you bundle your installation with NEM, you’ll get credit for any electricity you don’t use, lowering your bill even further. Sale to TNB has the same exchange rate as buying.
3. What is NEM (Net Energy Metering) and how does it work?
The idea behind NEM is that the energy produced by the solar PV system will be consumed first, with any surplus energy being exported to the distribution licensee (such as TNB/SESB).
While self-consumption takes precedence, some businesses, especially those in the manufacturing or industrial sectors, may have excess energy that is exported to the grid on weekends.
Customers’ accounts will be credited at the current customer rate, which is based on the 1:1 NEM stated earlier by the YB Minister. For a period of 24 months, the credit can be rolled over. Visit the SEDA website to learn more about NEM.
4. Do you package your solar PV with Net Energy Metering (NEM)?
Yes, if the customer’s usage trend indicates a large potential for surplus transmission to the grid, we strongly advise them to enrol in NEM to get the most out of their solar PV installation. On the NEM registration, we will inform you accordingly.
NEM registration may not be needed for customers with consumption patterns that are less likely to result in potential surplus. We may, however, register at the request of the customer.
NEM is included in our kit for residential customers. This is because your home’s usage during the week/daytime is typically lower than what your solar PV system can achieve. As a result, with NEM, the extra energy that will flow out to the TNB grid will be compensated in the form of a bill credit.
5. What is the difference between FIT and NEM?
In simple terms, the Feed-In Tariff (FIT) scheme in Malaysia allows Feed-in Approval Holders (FIAHs) to sell all electricity generated from renewable resources to Distribution Licensees, such as TNB, at the FiT rate.
In Net Energy Metering (NEM), however, the solar PV system’s electricity must be absorbed first, with any surplus being exported to the grid at a one-to-one basis.
